Sander is working as a teacher and a post-doctoral researcher at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA). The research is carried out at the CREATE-IT Applied Research institute.

Building upon his Ph.D. investigation into modern video games and artificial intelligence, at present he studies the application of games for cognitive and social enhancement of elderly, as well as dynamically generated game environments.

Outside the academia, Sander freelances as a photographer and as a DJ.
